Original Drawing by the late CJ Freeman

graphite on paper

24"x18"

Signed

A beautiful and otherworldly drawing which later became the 2 of spades in the popular "Doors of Somlipith" playing card oracle featuring the artwork of CJ Freeman with guidebook by his daughter, playing card scholar Ana Cortez. Signed by the artist and dated 1978. An exciting opportunity to collect work by this outsider artist who was relatively unknown in his lifetime but who created an impressive body of work that is having an affect on the world of oracle decks and playing card divination today.

Nearly 50 years old, the paper does show signs of age. Some warping due to exposure to moisture. There is a smudge of dark maroon paint alond the top edge, possibly the same paint used on the oil painting that would become the basis for the final image used in the Doors of Somlipith playing card oracle.

Charles J Freeman was a prolific self-taught painter and artist who dedicated his life to studying the secret language of playing cards. C.J. painted channeled imagery to elucidate the meanings of the cards and he and his daughter, Ana Cortez, developed two powerful oracle decks: The Playing Card Oracle, and The Doors of Somlipith; before he passed in 2010.
