Electra Gallery hosts an informative and inspiring presentation on Transcendental Meditation by Michael W. Barnard who has been a practitioner for 60 years and was Maharishi Mahesh Yogi's (the founder) personal filmmaker for 7 years. Michael will be joined in conversation by locals Denise and Joseph Gerace, also long-time practitioners of TM as well as certified TM instructors. A once in a lifetime opportunity to hear first-hand accounts about this transformative technique of mind and spirit that influenced notable figures from The Beatles, to David Lynch, to Oprah Winfrey.
Michael's visual artwork uses mixed media and assemblage to communicate transcendent states of being. Thread, glass, acrylic paint, and gold leaf come together to describe abstract forms and environments that are both elusive and mysteriously familiar. Geometric shapes, recognizable forms and symbols such as the spiral, rainbow, and Buddha image appear, suggesting intriguing moments of encounter beyond the veil.
Michael W. Barnard is an artist, producer, and filmmaker. He is the former Program Director of the David Lynch Graduate School of Cinematic Arts; and International Film Department Director of the Student's International Meditation Society in Switzerland, California and New York. He is a graduate of the California College of Arts and Crafts and a former student and collaborator of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, the founder of Transcendental Meditation.
