"Night Driver"
oil on canvas
3 panels, 54"x156"
1983
Signed by the artist
A luminous painting layered with striking color. Swooping lines and geometric shapes evoke the graphic sensibility of minimalist abstraction. One enjoys the play of color and form for its own sake and is then invited into a deeper experience when one learns that the painting is inspired by the artist's personal UFO encounter in the early 1970's.
About The Exhibition:
This October Gail Buono brings seven stunning oil paintings to Electra Gallery that are born of her own personal encounter with, yes, flying saucers. In 1971 Gail, along with her family and many members of her community, experienced an extended encounter with multiple "Unidentified Flying Objects" while they were driving along the Garden State Parkway in New Jersey. 1983 Gail began to process the experience through pastel drawings and oil paintings. 40 years later, in the wake of calls for disclosure around the world, Gail has decided it is time to share her experience with the world.
About The Artist:
Gail Buono is a prolific metaphysical oil painter who works with geometry and color to represent abstract philosophical and spiritual concepts. She received her BFA in painting from The School of Visual Arts in New York City. Her work has been shown nationally and internationally, and she is the receipient of two painting fellowships from the NJ State Council on the Arts, as well as a "Distinguished Artist Award". Her work has been featured in the New York Times, and was selected for a university circuit tour with the exhibition, The Enduring Presence (New York Abstraction).
